Training Specialist, Excel Spreadsheet Modernization

  • Job Description:
  • Provide services and support as an Information Technology Center Support (Training Specialist) focusing on IT Effectiveness Solutions for USDA clients (USDA AMS Cotton & Tobacco Program).
  • Develop training materials, conduct training sessions, and provide ongoing support for end-users of modernized Excel templates.
  • Modernize Excel templates: scrutinize complex macros and formulas, identify errors or inefficiencies, and implement fixes and automation (VBA/macros, PivotTables, complex formulas).
  • Create comprehensive user manuals and documentation for updated spreadsheets and systems; deliver basic training sessions to ensure end-user proficiency.
  • Handle multiple spreadsheet modernization tasks across divisions, ensure timely delivery of updates and fixes, and manage time effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with USDA Cotton & Tobacco divisions to understand specific spreadsheet needs, ensure user satisfaction, and deliver customized solutions.
  • Implement database integration & automation to streamline workflows and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Support financial management reporting needs including budget formulation, user-fee analysis, revenue and collection reports, and salary/benefits tracking when applicable.
  • Participate in professional services engagement activities, adhere to regulatory and mandatory training requirements, and maintain high ethical and professional standards.
  • Requirements:
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) | Expert in Excel certification (desired).
  • Certified Data Analyst (CDA) (desired).
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) (desired).
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (desired).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification (desired).
  • Bachelor’s in Education, IT, or related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience in training development and delivery.
  • Experience in Information Technology, Data Science, Financial Analysis, Statistics, Computer Science, or Business Management.
  • Strong background in financial analysis, data management, or agricultural economics relevant to the USDA AMS Cotton & Tobacco Program.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency including PivotTables, macros, VBA, complex formulas, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, automated reporting.
  • Attention to Detail, Time Management, Collaborative Teamwork, and Adaptability.
  • Training & Documentation Skills: creating comprehensive user manuals and delivering basic training sessions for end-users.
  • Data Analysis Expertise: data cleaning, transformation, summarization, financial and agricultural data experience.
  • Financial Management Reporting experience, especially budget formulation and user-fee analysis.
  • Database Integration & Automation experience to streamline workflows and reporting.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, & Adobe); advanced with Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word; proficient with Adobe Acrobat, data analytic tools, and Visio.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
