About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Public Health Informatics Analyst (Health Scientist) provide scientific, technical, and programmatic support to our Federal Government customer in advancing poliovirus containment objectives through the effective application of public health informatics, data analytics, systems thinking, and program evaluation methodologies.
The Senior Public Health Informatics Analyst (Health Scientist) serves as a subject matter expert responsible for integrating public health program requirements with data-driven solutions, supporting evidence-based decision-making, and enhancing the effectiveness of containment-related activities through analytical tools, reporting systems, technical guidance, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
This role functions as a bridge between program operations, scientific objectives, and informatics solutions to ensure effective use of information assets in support of our customer’s mission.
This is a remote short-term assignment (expected to last around 23 weeks) based in the United States.
Responsibilities
Public Health Informatics and Program Support
- Provide scientific and technical support to our Federal Government customer leadership in the implementation and oversight of poliovirus containment activities.
- Collaborate with program staff, technical experts, containment facilities, and external partners to identify programmatic, operational, data, and reporting requirements.
- Apply public health informatics principles to support program monitoring, compliance activities, technical oversight, and decision-making.
- Analyze operational, programmatic, and technical information to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and improvement strategies.
- Support implementation of internationally recognized containment standards, guidance, and operational requirements.
- Facilitate collaboration among multidisciplinary stakeholders to address complex public health and technical challenges.
- Coordinate technical working groups, stakeholder meetings, and collaborative initiatives supporting containment objectives.
- Track project activities, deliverables, milestones, risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
Data Management, Analytics, and Informatics
- Collect, manage, integrate, validate, and analyze data from multiple technical, operational, and public health sources.
- Design and implement data collection methodologies, reporting frameworks, performance measures, and monitoring approaches.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, reports, and analytical products that support program oversight and executive decision-making.
- Apply quantitative and qualitative analytical methods to assess operational performance, program effectiveness, and implementation outcomes.
- Develop and maintain electronic data collection tools, surveys, forms, databases, and reporting systems.
- Perform data quality assessments and recommend corrective actions to improve data completeness, consistency, and reliability.
- Generate evidence-based recommendations to improve program performance, stakeholder engagement, technical activities, and containment operations.
- Support system testing, process validation, simulation activities, and evaluation efforts associated with containment programs and related initiatives.
Scientific Review and Technical Guidance Development
- Review, analyze, and synthesize scientific literature, technical reports, policy documents, guidance materials, and historical program records.
- Develop technical guidance, implementation tools, policy support documents, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
- Support interpretation and implementation of containment standards and technical requirements.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen methodologies, operational processes, information management practices, and program effectiveness.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of technical reports, presentations, guidance documents, briefing materials, and communication products.
- Develop recommendations and corrective action strategies to address identified issues, risks, and performance gaps.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Serve as a liaison among customer personnel, containment facilities, public health organizations, international partners, contractors, and technical experts.
- Facilitate communication and information sharing among stakeholders to support program implementation and technical coordination.
- Develop briefing materials, executive summaries, reports, presentations, and knowledge-sharing resources.
- Present technical findings and program updates to leadership, technical working groups, and stakeholder audiences.
- Support development and delivery of training sessions, workshops, and technical assistance activities.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum seven (7) years of professional experience supporting public health, scientific, epidemiological, surveillance, preparedness, laboratory, biosafety, biosecurity, containment, or health informatics programs. Experience should include data analysis, dashboard/report development, stakeholder coordination, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of public health program implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement practices.
- Understanding of public health surveillance, data management, and information systems.
- Knowledge of scientific methods and analytical approaches used to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Familiarity with biosafety, biosecurity, laboratory operations, containment programs, or related public health disciplines.
- Knowledge of public health informatics principles and information management methodologies.
- Experience with data collection, management, integration, validation, and reporting processes.
- Ability to develop dashboards, visualizations, performance metrics, and analytical products.
- Experience using Microsoft Power BI, Excel, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, or similar data and reporting tools.
- Ability to assess program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experience developing measures, indicators, and evaluation frameworks.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to synthesize findings from multiple technical and operational sources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience facilitating meetings, working groups, stakeholder engagements, and collaborative initiatives.
- Demonstrated technical writing skills, including preparation of reports, briefings, guidance documents, and presentations.
- Experience working at CDC, HHS, WHO, APHL, or another public health organization preferred.
- Experience supporting laboratory, biosafety, biosecurity, infectious disease, or containment programs preferred.
- Knowledge of poliovirus containment principles and international containment standards preferred.
- Experience supporting program evaluation, data modernization, or public health informatics initiatives preferred.
- Familiarity with REDCap, Power BI, SAS, R, SQL, Tableau, or similar analytical platforms preferred.
- Experience supporting federal advisory groups, technical working groups, or international collaborations preferred.
- Ability to obtain government clearance
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
Education and Training
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Public Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Health Policy, Environmental Health, Biological Sciences, Health Services Research, Data Science, or a closely related scientific field. Bachelor’s degree plus additional relevant experience may be considered.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
