Position Profile

Reports To: Medical Director / Executive Director

General Description

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides essential clinical care and medical support within a residential and/or detox behavioral health setting. This role focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions.

This position will begin as part-time with the opportunity to grow into a full-time role as the program expands. We are flexible and open to designing a schedule that supports both operational needs and your work-life balance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Treatment

  • Conduct comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments
  • Diagnose and treat patients under established protocols and collaborative practice agreement
  • Prescribe medications, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), in accordance with federal and Kansas regulations
  • Monitor withdrawal symptoms and adjust treatment plans accordingly
  • Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify care as needed

Care Coordination & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with nursing, clinical, and recovery support teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case reviews
  • Communicate effectively with supervising physician and leadership team
  • Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies using approved protocols

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Kansas state regulations, and Joint Commission standards
  • Support audits, quality improvement initiatives, and survey readiness efforts

Patient Education & Engagement

  • Educate patients on diagnoses, medications, withdrawal, and recovery expectations
  • Utilize trauma-informed, person-centered approaches to build engagement and trust

Professional Practice

  • Maintain active licensure, prescriptive authority, and required certifications
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development
  • Participate in on-call coverage as needed to support 24/7 operations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program
  • Active, unencumbered Nurse Practitioner license in Kansas with prescriptive authority
  • Ability to practice under a collaborative agreement with a supervising physician
  • DEA registration or eligibility
  • Eligible to prescribe and manage Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (hands-on skills validation preferred) or ability to obtain within 30 days

Preferred Qualifications

  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification
  • 2+ years of experience in substance use disorder, detox, or behavioral health settings
  • Experience with withdrawal management and addiction pharmacotherapy
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria and levels of care

Compensation Statement

The base compensation range for this position is $65-$75/hour. This range reflects Ascension Recovery Services’ good faith estimate at the time of this posting. Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity. Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
